The City encourages residents to take a moment to look at their property and address any possible issues before a neighbor contacts staff for Code enforcement. This will strengthen our community image and help sustain property values. We prefer residents to work through any issues they have with one another before calling in zoning code violations. greater communication between our neighbors will help us build a stronger community and promote the kind of friendly, small-town atmosphere we come to value.

 

A top priority for the City of Mounds View Community Development Department is to ensure the quality of life for our residents. Some people may believe Code Enforcement is a nuisance and feel targeted when an inspector knocks on their door or issues a letter regarding code violations. Please know code violations are administered and handled uniformly throughout the City. The Mounds View Code Enforcement staff proactively looks for code violations in order to maintain a clean and safe community. When an Inspector sees a violation, they will immediately attempt to talk with the homeowner. However, often times they are unable to speak directly with a homeowner, so in that case, the residents will receive what is called a Notice of Violation. This form is NOT a “citation.” It is used as a way to inform residents that City Staff observed a property violation and what corrective actions are needed to bring the property into compliance. The name and contact information of the inspector issuing the citation is at the bottom of the letter. Please contact the inspector if you receive a notice to discuss any concerns. The inspectors are willing to work with property owners to keep our City clean and remain a great place to live. City Staff proactively looks for grass and weeds over eight (8) inches, deteriorated structures, junk vehicles (including unlicensed or expired tabs), garbage and trash accumulation, and parking on the lawn. Even in winter, vehicles must be parked on an improved parking surface. Rental properties must comply with the same property standards as single family residents. When reporting a zoning code violation, please leave your name, address, telephone number, and email as well as the address and specific nature of the code violation. This information is necessary so appropriate staff can be allocated. Staff may also need to contact you in the event there are any questions regarding the nature of the complaint. You may report a complaint via standard mail, online, over the phone, or in person at City Hall. Point of contact is Isaiah Schoeman for all complaints.

 

 

 

The purpose of these guidelines is to develop a standardized procedure to ensure proper communication between staff, the complainant, and the party in violation in resolving issues present in the community.
